A Journey of Rediscovery and Creative Expression
Recently, I’ve found myself reigniting my love for painting. Art has always held a special place in my heart, and despite indulging in occasional creative pursuits over the years, I’ve never fully delved into my passion for painting. Coping with chronic migraines has granted me more opportunities for relaxation and introspection, leading me to rediscover and cultivate my creative abilities once more.
Taking a 15 to 20-year break from painting has been a blessing for me. In the past, I used to be overly critical of myself and my work. However, during this break, I’ve realized that my art is a pure expression of my creativity and lived experiences. I no longer need to compare myself to other artists or worry about mastering specific techniques. Instead, I have found the freedom to lose myself in the pure act of creation, allowing my artistic expression to flow naturally and authentically.
Fresh Perspective
I’m in the midst of working on several pieces, and they’re all taking unexpected turns, but that’s totally fine with me. I’m going with the flow and exploring new techniques. I’m experimenting with molding paste, mixed media, and photography, gradually finding my unique style and getting into my groove. Each artwork is a journey of discovery, a canvas on which I can express my emotions and ideas. As I dive deeper into the world of mixed media, I’m drawn to the interplay of textures and colors, creating captivating visual narratives. With molding paste, I’ve discovered a new dimension to my creations, adding depth and tactile interest to my pieces. Photography, on the other hand, allows me to capture fleeting moments and transform them into everlasting impressions. This creative exploration is not just about the finished artwork, but also about the process, the evolution of each piece as it takes shape under my hands. I embrace the uncertainty and the surprises, knowing that they lead me to unexpected places and spark new avenues of artistic expression.

Continued Learning
This past weekend, I attended a class at Mohawk Valley Art Shoppe and created a beautiful autumn watercolor for my living room wall. The class, taught by Mary Francis Millett, was filled with valuable tips and techniques that I had not known before. These insights allow me to explore the medium with a fresh perspective and add depth to my work. I was particularly intrigued by the way Mary demonstrated how to blend warm and cool tones to create stunning visual effects in the leaves of the trees. Her guidance on using negative space to enhance the overall composition was also incredibly enlightening. By experimenting with different brush strokes and layering techniques, I found new ways to capture the vibrant colors of the fall landscape. The atmosphere in the studio was conducive to creativity, and I enjoyed exchanging ideas with the other participants. Overall, the experience was not only educational but also inspiring, and it has motivated me to continue honing my watercolor skills and seeking out new opportunities for artistic growth.

Writing
Additionally, I am on a wild goose chase for inspiration in my writing, my poetry, and my meditations. With a vast library of materials at my fingertips, I can concoct visual representations of my prose, leading to a source of endless creativity (and a fair amount of procrastination). Whether I am plumbing the depths of my emotions through poetry or pondering the quirks of life in my prose, the myriad of thoughts and experiences become the building blocks for my art. As I bury myself in the written word, each piece turns into a brushstroke, splattering vivid (and sometimes bewildering) images in the minds of my readers. It is within this medley of words and visuals that I stumble upon the true essence of my artistic expression, a realm where imagination and reality collide to form a chaotic tapestry of boundless imagination.
But that is what art is all about. It is boundless, chaotic, and yet so wonderfully captivating. As I have previously written, art has the power to transcend language, culture, and time, speaking to the depths of our souls in ways that words alone cannot. It allows us to express our deepest emotions, unleash our creativity, and challenge the boundaries of conventional thinking. Art is a reflection of the human experience, a tapestry woven from the threads of passion, inspiration, and innovation. In its boundless nature, art invites us to explore, to question, and to imagine without limits. This unbounded quality is what makes art such a powerful force in our lives, shaping our perspectives and enriching our existence with its beautiful and ever-changing forms.
The creative force is as inspiring as it is maddening. It is a driving passion, a single-minded focus. All other thoughts become dampened or drowned out. An inexplicable force exerts itself like some unwieldy caged beast, gnawing relentlessly to be released.
